NWCC's 2024-2024 season examines voices: of the average American, of our great poets, and those that echo from our past into our present. On the eve of the general election, we ask what it means to be a citizen of a nation, to explore and exercise our political voices, and where our collective values lie in “our common fate.” March’s concert focuses on the architect of the American poetic voice, Walt Whitman, and his legacy—the music and poetry inspired by his unique point of view. That leads us to our third concert, a collaboration with Sammamish High School to explore voices that echo across generations, literally and metaphorically. We sing contemporary music that draws its inspiration from voices past, and historical music that we can recognize as visionary in hindsight.
A season of questions. How long do our voices last? How do we listen to the voices of others? Can we share our voices equally? And what can we do with our voices while we have them?
